70 Students Showcase Parliamentary Skills at 17th National Youth Parliament Competition in Jammu

MARCH 23:Government College for Women (GCW) Parade Ground organized the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition 2024-25 on Saturday under the aegis of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India. The event, which aimed at fostering an understanding of parliamentary procedures and honing debating skills, saw enthusiastic participation from 70 students.

The event was graced by Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, who served as the Chief Guest. His presence was a source of great inspiration for the young participants. In his address, Sharma commended the efforts of both the students and faculty for organizing the event and remarked that the session reminded him of the real Parliament, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary processes in shaping a democratic society.

Alongside Sharma, Prof. Dinesh Chahal, Professor at Central University, Haryana, and Group Coordinator of the Youth Parliament, also attended the event. He shared motivating feedback and encouraged the students to continue honing their leadership and debating skills, as these are vital for future policymakers. Former Nodal Principal of Jammu Division Colleges, Dr. S. P. Sarswat, congratulated the college and students for their exemplary efforts in making the event a success.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo, Principal of GCW Parade. Prof. Jasneet Kaur efficiently conducted the proceedings, while Dr. Gurpreet Kour, National Youth Parliament Coordinator, delivered the Vote of Thanks.

Several distinguished faculty members, including Dr. Sushma Chib, Dr. Ritu Magotra, Dr. Rajesh Kant, Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar, Dr. Mamta Sharma, Dr. Atiya Syed, Prof. Anuradha Kalsi, and Dr. Arif Ahmad, attended the event. Their presence underscored the significance of academic and extracurricular engagement in shaping students’ futures.

The participants debated the important topic of “One Nation One Election” with full decorum, reflecting the democratic spirit of the nation. Their performances demonstrated their understanding of parliamentary procedures and highlighted the value of debate and discussion in shaping leadership skills.

The top three winners of the competition were Aseesabjot Kour (1st Prize), Sehrish Altaf (2nd Prize), and Ufra Tanveer (3rd Prize). The competition proved to be a transformative platform, enabling students to engage with parliamentary processes and develop leadership qualities. The event was a resounding success, providing an enlightening and stimulating experience for all involved.
