APRIL 28: A major special enforcement drive was undertaken throughout Jammu City, stretching from the southern to northern regions, under the close supervision of Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Jasmeet Singh. The initiative primarily focused on curbing practices like overcharging, overloading, and ensuring that e-rickshaw drivers held valid licenses and complete documentation for their vehicles.
During this extensive operation, enforcement teams inspected a total of 750 vehicles. Out of these, 87 vehicles were e-challaned for various violations, while 56 vehicles were seized for breaching provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and associated regulations. As a result, penalties amounting to ₹3,46,200 were levied against the offenders.
In addition to checking for compliance, the authorities also organized multiple awareness sessions for drivers and passengers alike. These sessions aimed to educate the public about the importance of adhering to road safety norms and the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Drivers were informed about the serious consequences of violations such as overloading and operating without proper documentation.
Special attention was given to e-rickshaw operators, with specific instructions issued to ensure they confine their operations within designated zones. The authorities stressed that adherence to these guidelines is critical to maintaining order and safety on city roads.
The entire enforcement campaign was spearheaded by Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) Er. Bipen Singh Charak and Mohd Salim Manhas. They were ably supported by Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Er. C. S. Billowria, Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector (SMVI) Amanish Sharma, and Motor Vehicle Traffic Assistant (MVTA) Taranjot Singh.
The Transport Department has reiterated its commitment to making Jammu’s roads safer and has announced that similar drives will continue in the future to ensure strict compliance with road safety and traffic laws. The department also urged citizens and transport operators to cooperate fully and prioritize safety over convenience.
