APRIL 22: In adherence to the directions issued by Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Deputy Commissioner (South), Lal Chand, conducted an inspection of the Shelter Home located at Boria Basti, Bahu. The purpose of the visit was to assess the overall functioning of the facility and evaluate the quality of services and amenities provided to its residents.
The Deputy Commissioner (South) was joined by Retired Judge and former Member of the J&K Public Service Commission, Subash Gupta, as well as members of the Shelter Home’s management committee. The delegation carried out a comprehensive review of the infrastructure and operational arrangements to ensure the well-being and dignity of the inmates residing at the facility.
During the inspection, the DC (South) and accompanying dignitaries interacted directly with the inmates to understand their concerns and living conditions. They assured the residents that all efforts would be made to enhance their comfort and ensure the consistent availability of essential amenities. The visit emphasized a people-centric approach, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to uplift vulnerable sections of society.
Key operational concerns were discussed during the review, including the uninterrupted supply of food rations, timely clearance of electricity bills, and regular disbursement of wages to the staff. Additionally, the need for clearing the access road leading to the shelter and engaging more manpower to maintain hygiene and sanitation around the premises was also highlighted.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that as per the instructions of the JMC Commissioner, all critical aspects of the Shelter Home’s functioning are being actively monitored. He emphasized that necessary measures have already been initiated to address existing challenges and to improve the overall living environment within the shelter.
The visit reflects the administration’s proactive approach in ensuring that Shelter Homes operate efficiently and in line with welfare norms. It also showcases a collaborative effort between municipal authorities, judicial dignitaries, and civil society representatives to create a supportive and humane ecosystem for marginalized individuals.
