JUNE 13: As part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2025, Secretary of the Rural Development Department (RDD), Mohammad Aijaz Asad, carried out an extensive on-ground inspection of sanitation and infrastructure arrangements along the Pahalgam axis, focusing on the critical stretch leading up to Sheshnag.
The visit began from Nunwan Base Camp and continued through various en-route locations up to the high-altitude Sheshnag camp, which is a significant halt for pilgrims undertaking the sacred Yatra. During the inspection, Secretary Asad personally reviewed the functionality and readiness of multiple facilities being established to cater to the anticipated influx of devotees.
A key highlight of the inspection was the emphasis on implementing a zero-landfill policy, aiming to ensure complete eco-friendly waste management during the Yatra. The policy stresses segregation at source, proper disposal of solid waste, and reducing environmental impact in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region.
Secretary Asad also underscored the importance of real-time grievance redressal systems. He directed concerned officers to establish mechanisms that would allow for immediate response to pilgrim issues, thereby ensuring a hassle-free and smooth journey for all visitors.
To further improve the quality of services, the department has introduced a QR-code based feedback system at sanitation facilities. This innovative step will allow pilgrims to register their feedback instantly, enabling authorities to monitor toilet functionality, cleanliness, and maintenance efficiency on a real-time basis.
Special attention was given to grey water management, with strict instructions issued for proper drainage and treatment to avoid any contamination of the surrounding environment. Secretary Asad also reviewed the operational status of mobile and bio-toilets, ensuring their full functionality well before the commencement of the Yatra.
Additionally, detailed guidelines were provided to maintain high hygiene standards, emphasizing cleanliness at campsites, food stalls, and other pilgrim touchpoints. The Secretary reiterated that all arrangements must be pilgrim-centric, keeping safety, comfort, and health as topmost priorities.
The comprehensive inspection reflects the administration’s commitment to delivering a seamless, safe, and spiritually fulfilling Yatra experience, while preserving the pristine environment of the Amarnathji Yatra route.
