MARCH 31: The Union Ministry for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has extended the deadline for the ongoing Awaas+ 2024 survey under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) by one month. The new deadline for the survey has been shifted from March 31, 2025, to April 30, 2025, allowing more time for the identification of additional eligible rural households.
The extension follows multiple requests from various state and union territory governments, including Jammu & Kashmir. These requests were based on the need for more time to ensure a comprehensive survey that includes all eligible beneficiaries, especially in remote and snowbound areas.
An official communiqué from the Ministry of Rural Development confirmed the extension, emphasizing that the additional time would help in ensuring better coverage of rural beneficiaries, ensuring no eligible household is left out of the scheme. The communiqué also mentioned that states and UTs must complete the survey using the Awaas+ 2024 mobile application, which includes the verification of self-reported cases by rural households.
Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Secretary of the Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, welcomed the decision and reiterated that the request for an extension was made primarily due to the challenges posed by weather conditions in snowbound areas. He highlighted the importance of extending the deadline to ensure that every eligible household in Jammu & Kashmir and other regions would be accounted for in the survey.
As of March 29, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir has made significant progress in completing district-wise surveys. A total of 400,475 potential beneficiaries have been surveyed across the UT. Rajouri district leads with the highest number of surveys completed, with 42,141 beneficiaries surveyed. Poonch and Kupwara districts are close behind, with 41,255 and 38,271 surveys, respectively.
This extension is a crucial step toward ensuring the success of PMAY-G, which aims to provide rural households with pucca houses with all basic amenities. By extending the deadline, the government aims to ensure that the survey reaches every eligible household, especially in remote areas, thereby strengthening the effectiveness of the scheme.
The government has also directed all states and UTs to complete the survey process efficiently and ensure that all self-reported cases are verified in the mobile application, guaranteeing accuracy and inclusivity.
