APRIL 12: In a concerted effort to strengthen the ongoing fight against drug abuse, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal, on Friday chaired a significant meeting with representatives of various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating across the district. The meeting was held as part of the government’s broader initiative under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’.
During the meeting, ADM Jamwal urged the NGOs to actively contribute towards promoting the objectives of the campaign and take up a more vigorous and proactive role in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. She emphasized that the role of NGOs is vital in this movement, as they have the ability to directly engage with communities and influence public opinion at the grassroots level.
She assured the participants that the District Administration would provide all possible assistance to strengthen their efforts. This includes deploying resource persons and experts to support the NGOs in conducting educational sessions, awareness drives, and outreach programmes across different localities in Jammu.
ADM Jamwal underlined the importance of collective responsibility in eradicating the menace of drug addiction. While the administration continues to organize district-wide awareness events, she encouraged NGOs to step forward and work closely with the community by visiting neighbourhoods, schools, and other public spaces. She highlighted the need to educate people, particularly the youth, about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of leading a healthy, addiction-free life.
In a significant appeal, she also called upon NGOs to act as the eyes and ears of the administration by sharing credible information about individuals struggling with drug addiction, as well as those suspected of being involved in the drug trade. She assured strict confidentiality for informants and promised swift action against culprits in coordination with the police and other law enforcement agencies.
ADM Jamwal invited suggestions from the NGOs to improve the campaign’s effectiveness and ensure long-term, sustained efforts against drug abuse. She reiterated the commitment of the District Administration to support all genuine initiatives and stressed that collaboration among civil society, government agencies, and local communities is essential for making Jammu a truly drug-free district.
The meeting marked another step forward in the government’s strategy to mobilize all sections of society in the ongoing fight against the drug menace.
