MARCH 22: In a continued effort to enforce the Motor Vehicle Act, the Traffic Police National Highway, under the supervision of SSP NHW Rohit Baskotra, has registered an FIR for overloading and endangering human lives in the Bhadarwah Sector. This action is part of the ongoing drive against violations of traffic laws and safety regulations.
A team from the Traffic Sub-Division Doda-Kishtwar, led by ASI Shafid Ahmed, SO (T) Bhadarwah, under the supervision of Dy SP (T) Doda-Kishtwar and SSP (T) NHW Ramban, seized a vehicle, a mini-bus, bearing registration number JK06B/6437, during a routine traffic inspection in the Bhadarwah Sector today. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying 15 passengers over the permissible seating capacity of 25, as per the vehicle’s registration certificate. This overloading violation posed a significant risk to the lives of passengers, prompting the registration of an FIR.
A case, FIR No. 35/2025, under sections 281/125 BNS of the Motor Vehicle Act, has been filed at the Bhadarwah Police Station. The overloaded vehicle was immediately seized, and investigations are underway. This marks the third consecutive FIR filed during the ongoing special drive against overloading violations by the Traffic Police NHW.
In addition to actions against overloading, the Traffic Police are also focusing on other visible offenses, such as the use of electronic devices while driving, failure to wear seat belts, driving without crash helmets, and underage driving. These violations continue to endanger public safety, and authorities are working diligently to curb such offenses.
SSP Traffic Rohit Baskotra emphasized that strict action is being taken against violators in line with the sustained drive launched by the Traffic Police NHW. He further noted that a detailed advisory has been published for all commuters traveling on the National Highway, urging parents not to send their children in private vehicles used for commercial purposes. Such actions are against the law and put the safety of students at risk.
For those with traffic-related queries, the public has been advised to contact the newly established Grievance Cell, which aims to address complaints and assist violators in settling traffic fines. “If violators have already settled their fines, they can complete the process online through the M-Parivahan site without needing to visit Ramban,” added SSP Baskotra.
SSP Baskotra also called on the public to follow traffic rules and actively report visible violations to help make roads safer for everyone. Commuters can contact the Traffic Police helpline numbers: 9419993745, 9906023617, Toll-Free Number: 18001807043, or TCU-8491928625 to report any violations or seek assistance.
