Kathua, February 23: In an endeavor to benefit the farming community in far flung areas, DDC Chairman Kathua (Retd.) Col. Maan Singh and Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak, conducted a whirlwind tour of Bani and Basohli area of the District. They were accompanied by SDM Satish Sharma; Chief Horticulture Officer, Sushil Angurana and other officers & officials of the department.
The DDC Chairman and the Director visited Challah, Draman, Kardoh and Jandrali areas to select sites for developing Mega departmental nurseries to benefit the local farming community. The Director briefed the local farmers about the various Central and UT sponsored schemes of the department and urged them to come forward, associate with the horticulture department and avail the benefits of different components viz Protected cultivation, Water harvesting tanks, Drip irrigation, Custom Hiring Centres, Vermicompost units, Strawberry plantation, Tools/implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
Further, he said that the area has a great potential for horticulture crops which must be tapped and appealed to the PRI members and field functionaries to work in tandem for doubling the farmers income with special focus on area expansion, establishment of solar dryers and processing units.
Earlier, the Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua briefed the Director about the status of various activities going on in the area.
