APRIL 6: A nutrition kit distribution programme was organized today at the Chest Disease (CD) Hospital, Government Medical College Jammu, as part of the ongoing national campaign TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The event saw the participation of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Also present at the programme was Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Harbaksh Singh, along with senior hospital staff, TB health officials, and representatives of J&K Bank, which supported the initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Sachin Kumar Vaishya emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, proper treatment, and nutritional support in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). He encouraged patients undergoing treatment to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including nutritious eating habits and regular physical exercise, to aid faster recovery and prevent recurrence of the disease.

“The message of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan must reach every corner of society,” said the Deputy Commissioner. “It is essential to break the stigma often associated with tuberculosis. TB is curable, and patients must not feel isolated or ashamed. Community support and awareness are key to eliminating the disease.”

The nutrition kits distributed during the event were designed to provide essential dietary supplements and promote immunity among TB patients, especially those from economically weaker sections. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader aim to provide comprehensive care—medical, emotional, and nutritional—to TB patients and support their recovery journey.

The programme also included brief awareness sessions led by medical professionals, who educated attendees about symptoms, prevention, and treatment protocols related to TB. The hospital administration acknowledged the role of J&K Bank in supporting the health department’s efforts through its CSR engagement.

Following the distribution ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner inspected several upcoming infrastructure projects within the hospital complex, including enhanced patient care facilities and modernization of diagnostic departments. He expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in the district.
