MAY 21: Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressing a gathering at Mormugao Port, Goa, emphasized that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 requires peace along India’s borders, strong national security, and sustained economic growth. He stated that an eight-fold rise in per capita income is essential for India to attain developed nation status by 2047, adding that peace is the foundation for such progress. “Peace is only possible through strength — strength in defense, economy, and national resolve,” he said.
Highlighting Operation Sindoor, the Vice-President lauded the precise strikes on terrorist bases in Muridke and Bahawalpur, terming it a “powerful message to the world” against terrorism. He remarked that the consequences of the operation were evident, “not requiring any proof,” as even the perpetrators acknowledged the losses. He hailed the action as one of the finest examples of decisive leadership in a democracy.
Shri Dhankhar further underlined the strategic significance of oceans, stressing the urgent need for India to become a leader in shipbuilding. He called for a resilient and future-ready maritime security strategy to counter emerging threats such as cybercrimes, transnational smuggling, and increasing competition over sea lanes. “As 70% of our cargo by value is carried by sea, the demand will only grow with our rapidly expanding economy,” he noted.
Inaugurating key infrastructure projects worth ₹300 crore, including a 3 MW solar plant, two harbor mobile cranes, and a coal-handling dome at the port, the Vice-President praised the Modi government’s commitment to timely and large-scale development. “What defines this government is not just vision, but fast and effective execution,” he added.
Referring to the recently inaugurated Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, Shri Dhankhar cited it as a “model of cooperative federalism,” with leaders from across political lines and private stakeholders working together.
He also paid a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Coast Guard, acknowledging their vital role in safeguarding marine ecosystems and saving lives during natural disasters. “You are the silent sentinels of our seas, protecting coral reefs, mangroves, marine life, and ensuring law and order at sea. The nation salutes your courage and sacrifice,” he said.
The event was attended by Goa Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Shri Pramod Sawant, Union MoS Shri Shantanu Thakur, and other dignitaries.
