Development of Sufi Shrines and Victim Welfare in Focus During LG-Dr Andrabi Meet

MAY 24: Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, called on Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha to discuss several key issues concerning public welfare and the development of religious sites in the Union Territory.

During the meeting, Dr. Andrabi conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for the recent government announcement providing employment to the closest kin of victims affected by cross-border shelling from Pakistan. She lauded the administration’s humane approach in acknowledging the pain and loss of those living in border areas, stating that such compassionate measures bring much-needed relief and dignity to the families affected by these tragedies.

Dr. Andrabi also briefed the Lieutenant Governor about a number of initiatives currently being undertaken by the Waqf Board, particularly focusing on the conservation and development of Sufi shrines across Jammu and Kashmir. She highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of these shrines and emphasized the Board’s commitment to restoring and enhancing these heritage sites as places of devotion, peace, and unity.

The discussion included proposals to improve facilities at several important Sufi shrines, enhance cleanliness and infrastructure, and promote these religious sites as hubs of spiritual tourism. Dr. Andrabi stressed that preserving the rich Sufi traditions of the region not only protects cultural heritage but also fosters communal harmony and spiritual well-being.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha appreciated the efforts of the Waqf Board under Dr. Andrabi’s leadership and assured her of the government’s full support in all constructive endeavors. He acknowledged the critical role that religious and cultural institutions play in promoting societal values and preserving the diverse heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to equitable development, inclusive growth, and welfare of all communities. He encouraged continued coordination between the Waqf Board and government departments to streamline efforts aimed at uplifting both religious infrastructure and community support mechanisms.
