MARCH 20:Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar today conducted a thorough review of the ongoing road construction work and the traffic movement on the National Highway 44 stretch in Ramban. The meeting, aimed at addressing key challenges in the ongoing construction projects, was attended by a high-level team of officials including the DIG Traffic, Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Project Director of NHAI Ramban, and SSPs of Ramban and NHW Ramban.
During the meeting, the officials held an in-depth discussion on the issues affecting the smooth flow of traffic in the under-construction areas of the National Highway. The Divisional Commissioner specifically sought to identify the points that suffer from traffic congestion, especially as construction work is ongoing in several locations. The terrain in the hilly district adds an extra layer of complexity to the situation, making it more challenging to manage traffic and construction activities simultaneously.
To address these challenges, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar emphasized the need for meticulous planning in the execution of the roadwork. He directed the Project Director of NHAI to deploy additional men and machinery to accelerate the construction process and ensure timely completion. The Div Com also instructed the officials to address the potholes that often form due to rain, which can impede the smooth movement of vehicles. He emphasized the importance of keeping the highway in good condition at all times, especially during adverse weather conditions.
The Project Director informed the Divisional Commissioner that efforts were underway to ensure a smooth riding surface by the first week of April on the Nashri-Dalwas stretch. He also assured that the damaged section of the road at Mehar would be repaired promptly, which would further ease the traffic movement on the stretch.
Highlighting the significance of maintaining double-lane traffic on the National Highway, the Div Com stressed that all efforts should be made to ensure the uninterrupted flow of vehicles. He directed both the traffic department and the NHAI officials in Ramban to keep their men and machinery activated at all times, particularly in areas prone to congestion. Regular reporting and quick resolution of traffic-related issues were also emphasized to maintain smooth traffic conditions.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all the involved stakeholders to closely monitor the situation, with a particular focus on resolving congestion and completing the construction work on time. The Divisional Commissioner’s proactive approach aims to balance the ongoing roadwork with the need for efficient traffic management, ensuring that the National Highway remains accessible and safe for all commuters.
