APRIL 13: The 135th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a towering social reformer, will be celebrated with reverence and national pride. The grand event will take place at Prerna Sthal, Parliament House Lawns, New Delhi. It is being organized by the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) on behalf of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The commemoration will begin with a solemn floral tribute ceremony by the President of India, Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Ministers, Parliamentarians, and other dignitaries. This ceremonial tribute will take place in the morning hours and will serve as a collective gesture of gratitude toward Babasaheb Ambedkar’s monumental contributions to Indian society.
Following the dignitary-led ceremony, the event will be opened to the public until 12:00 noon. During this time, citizens, students, scholars, and admirers of Babasaheb will have the opportunity to pay their respects at the Prerna Sthal. The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation has made special arrangements to facilitate public participation, including the operation of dedicated bus services for visits to the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial (DANM), located at 26, Alipur Road, New Delhi.
The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF), which is spearheading the organization of the event, was established on March 24, 1992, as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It was formed following the recommendations of the Centenary Celebration Committee headed by the then Prime Minister in 1991. The foundation’s mission is to spread the life, thoughts, and ideals of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar across India.
The Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial (DANM) stands as a testament to his enduring legacy. The memorial showcases Dr. Ambedkar’s life and work through personal artifacts, photographs, letters, and documents. It also features interactive audio-visual exhibits of his powerful speeches and writings, offering visitors a comprehensive view of his transformative contributions in fields such as law, social justice, education, and human rights.The celebration of Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti is not just a tribute, but also a reaffirmation of the values he stood for—equality, justice, and liberty for all.
