MAY 14: Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to leading the development of sixth-generation (6G) communications technologies during his address at the ‘Bharat 6G 2025’ – the 3rd International Conference and Exhibition held in New Delhi today.
Speaking to an audience of global tech leaders, researchers, industry experts, and policymakers, Dr. Pemmasani emphasized that India is no longer a passive adopter of technology but is steadily transforming into a global standard-setter. He called upon all stakeholders to view Bharat 6G not simply as a technological ambition, but as a vital national mission that will shape the country’s digital future.
“6G is not just a linear evolution from 5G. It represents a civilisational leap — one that can redefine how we connect, communicate, and compute,” the Minister remarked. He underscored 6G’s immense potential to transform key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and urban development through smart city applications.
Highlighting the strategic roadmap laid out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Pemmasani recalled the launch of the Bharat 6G Vision on March 23, 2023, which envisions India emerging as a global 6G powerhouse by 2030. He noted that through the Bharat 6G Alliance, more than 111 research projects have already been funded. The vision also promotes strong global partnerships with countries like Japan, Singapore, and Finland and focuses on pioneering advancements in terahertz communication and AI-native network infrastructure.
He elaborated on the technical aspects of 6G, stating that the new generation of wireless technology will enable ultra-fast data speeds of up to 1 terabit per second, ultra-low latency in sub-millisecond ranges, terahertz spectrum utilization, intelligent self-healing networks, and comprehensive volumetric connectivity—from deep-sea communication to aerospace systems.
Dr. Pemmasani emphasized that the Government, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, is fully committed to ensuring that India not only develops cutting-edge technology but also plays a central role in shaping global standards. He concluded by reiterating India’s readiness to lead the 6G revolution, backed by its unmatched scale, innovation ecosystem, skilled workforce, and political resolve.
The conference served as a platform for collaboration and alignment among international and domestic players working toward a shared vision for the future of global connectivity.
