MAY 07: Following a comprehensive door-to-door verification exercise, the final electoral rolls for Assembly Constituencies 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota have been officially published. Citizens dissatisfied with the entries or decisions related to these rolls are now invited to file appeals as per legal provisions.

The process began with a detailed field survey conducted by 323 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who verified voter details across both constituencies. This groundwork led to the publication of draft electoral rolls on April 8, 2025, by the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).

To ensure transparency and collaboration, 279 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) were appointed by various political parties to verify the accuracy of the draft rolls. These agents worked alongside the BLOs to ensure no eligible voter was left out and to flag discrepancies where necessary.

In response to the draft rolls, the EROs received and addressed claims and objections submitted by the public and political stakeholders. After careful review and necessary corrections, the final electoral rolls were released on May 5, 2025, and official copies were distributed to all political parties for reference.

As per Section 24(a) of the Representation of People Act, 1950, any individual who disagrees with a decision made by the ERO now has the right to file an appeal with the concerned District Magistrate. This provision is meant to ensure fair representation and accuracy in the electoral rolls.

Furthermore, if a citizen is not satisfied with the outcome of their appeal to the District Magistrate, they have the option to escalate the matter to the Chief Electoral Officer of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

This appeal mechanism provides an additional layer of accountability and safeguards the integrity of the electoral process. Authorities urge citizens to review the published rolls carefully and utilize the appeal window if any discrepancies remain.

The publication and appeals process underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and accurate voter registration system, ahead of any upcoming electoral activities in the Union Territory.
