MARCH 30: The Irrigation Department has announced that water will be released into the irrigation canals of Jammu Division on April 2, 2025. A notice issued by the department today has informed the public, especially the farming community, about this crucial development. The announcement covers several key canals, including the Main Ranbir Canal, New Partap Canal, Kathua Canal, and other irrigation canals across the Jammu province.

In the notice, the Irrigation Department emphasized that this release of water is part of the annual process to ensure that farmers across the region have access to water for their agricultural needs. The notice was issued to make the public aware of the timing of the water release, ensuring that farmers can make appropriate preparations for the upcoming irrigation season.

The department further directed all concerned Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers to complete any ongoing maintenance or construction work along the canals before the water is released. They have been urged to plan their activities in a way that ensures the timely completion of all necessary works to avoid any disruptions when the water starts flowing through the canals. This proactive approach is aimed at ensuring smooth irrigation operations and preventing any issues from arising during the crucial farming season.

Additionally, the notice outlined specific responsibilities for the Executive Engineers of various irrigation divisions, including Irrigation Division No: I Jammu, Irrigation Division No: II Jammu, Irrigation Division Akhnoor, and Irrigation Division Kathua. The Executive Engineers have been directed to organize teams that will accompany the water as it flows through the canal and distribution networks. These teams will be responsible for overseeing the safe passage of water up to the tail ends of the canals, ensuring that the water reaches all areas, including the farthest regions.

The teams are tasked with monitoring the flow to prevent any potential incidents or disruptions. The department has emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and uninterrupted flow of water, particularly for those farmers located at the tail ends of the irrigation systems, who may otherwise face difficulties in receiving adequate water.

The release of water is a critical event for farmers in the region, as it marks the start of the irrigation season. It is expected to benefit farmers by providing them with the water necessary for the cultivation of crops, particularly those dependent on canal irrigation. With the planning and preparedness of the department, the entire process is expected to proceed smoothly, ensuring that agricultural activities in the region can continue without hindrance.
