MAY 01: In a proactive step to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents, District Magistrate Samba, Rajesh Sharma, chaired an important meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the DC Office Complex.

The meeting began with a detailed presentation by officials on two key platforms—Integrated Road Accident Database (i-RAD) and Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR). The presentation offered vital insights into traffic rule violations, accident hotspots, and challans issued across the district. These findings formed the basis for planning targeted interventions to prevent accidents.

Key discussion points included launching impactful awareness campaigns on road safety, identifying accident-prone black spots, and installing crash barriers and other protective infrastructure in vulnerable areas.

District Magistrate Rajesh Sharma stressed the critical role of public awareness and driver responsibility in preventing accidents and saving lives. He emphasized that coordinated efforts among departments are essential to building a culture of road safety. A unified, people-centered approach, he said, is the need of the hour.

To strengthen on-ground enforcement, the DM directed the Motor Vehicle Department and Traffic Police to increase naka (checkpoint) inspections and carry out dedicated special drives targeting frequent traffic violations. He also called for imposing strict penalties on violators to reinforce deterrence and promote lawful behavior on roads.

DM Sharma highlighted that improved road safety isn’t only the responsibility of enforcement agencies but requires active participation from all stakeholders, including drivers, pedestrians, and civil society.

The meeting concluded with strong inter-departmental commitments to act swiftly on the discussed action points. All departments pledged to intensify their efforts to ensure safer roads across the district.

Officials attending the meeting included Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of Ghagwal and Vijaypur, Executive Engineers (XENs), the Chief Education Officer (CEO), and representatives from the Motor Vehicle Department, Traffic Police, and other allied departments.

The meeting reflects the administration’s continued focus on reducing traffic-related fatalities and injuries by combining infrastructure upgrades, public education, and enforcement.
