MARCH 5: Ghulam Hassan Sheikh has officially assumed the role of Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), succeeding his predecessor Sudershan Kumar. In his first official act, Sheikh chaired an introductory meeting with senior Board officers to review critical issues that require immediate attention, setting the stage for his tenure. Sheikh’s immediate focus is on maintaining the integrity of the ongoing Annual Regular Examinations for students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades across both Hard and Soft Zone areas of Jammu & Kashmir and the UT of Ladakh.
Sheikh emphasized the importance of vigilance in ensuring the smooth conduct of examinations and the quality of facilities provided at exam centres. He urged all officers and officials to maintain a strict watch over the performance of examination centres and the facilities available to students. He stressed the need for a positive and compassionate approach towards students, believing that such an approach would contribute to enhancing student performance during these crucial exams. Sheikh’s remarks highlighted his commitment to creating an environment where students can perform to the best of their abilities.
The new Secretary also convened an online meeting with officers from the Sub/Branch Offices of JKBOSE, directing them to ensure the maintenance of the highest standards of examination integrity. The virtual meeting provided an opportunity for Sheikh to outline his vision for transparent and fair conduct of examinations, reinforcing his priority of upholding the trust and confidence of students and stakeholders in the examination process. He urged all officers to put in their best efforts to prevent any malpractices that could compromise the examination’s fairness.
To further reinforce this vision, Sheikh later held a virtual interaction with Chief Education Officers from all districts, seeking their cooperation in ensuring the seamless and transparent conduct of examinations. The interaction was an effort to foster collaboration between district-level officials and the JKBOSE, ensuring that any potential issues are swiftly addressed at the grassroots level.
In addition to his meetings, Sheikh visited various sections of the Divisional Office in Jammu, including evaluation halls, to oversee the ongoing assessment process. During his visit, he interacted with staff and examiners, stressing the importance of meticulous care while evaluating students’ answer sheets. Sheikh pointed out that the evaluation process is a critical step in students’ academic careers, and utmost care and caution must be exercised to ensure fairness and accuracy in assessment.
With a clear focus on integrity, transparency, and student welfare, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh’s leadership marks a new chapter for JKBOSE, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards in academic evaluation.
