01 April 2025: Government Strengthens Sericulture Industry with Silk Samagra-2 Scheme
The Government, through the Central Silk Board, is actively boosting the sericulture industry under the Silk Samagra-2 scheme, with an outlay of ₹4,679.85 crore for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.
- This scheme provides financial assistance to States for key interventions such as:
Establishing Kissan nurseries and chawki rearing centers - Support for silkworm rearing, including plantation, irrigation, rearing houses, and equipment
- Infrastructure development for silkworm seed sector, silk reeling, spinning, weaving, and processing
So far, ₹1,075.58 crore has been allocated, benefiting nearly 78,000 sericulture farmers, enhancing both pre- and post-cocoon sectors for sustainable silk production.
In addition, Research & Development initiatives are driving higher silk productivity to support Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the silk industry.
States like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have received ₹72.50 crore and ₹40.66 crore, respectively, in the past three years to promote sericulture.
This initiative aims to empower silk farmers, enhance silk production, and strengthen India’s position as a leading silk producer.
