Harvesting of Seedless Cucumber begins at Krishi Bhawan Jammu

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 19: Director Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare Jammu, K. K. Sharma today inaugurated the first picking of Seedless Cucumber (Multi Star RZ) being grown under protected conditions at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo Jammu. A range of vegetable crops are raised here under Naturally Ventilated Polygreen House (NVPGH) structure using advanced vegetable cultivation practices for demonstration and popularization among the farmers.

 

Joint Director Inputs, A.S. Reen; Joint Director Marketing, Mahesh Verma; Agronomist Vegetable, J.C.Raina; FDA, R.S. Baloria; Farm Manager JPAEF, Arun Jaral; JAEO, Jagdish Bali and AEA, Darmeshver Vaid, besides others were present on the occasion.

 

The Director, while speaking on the occasion, said that every effort should be made to popularize high tech interventions by the department for enhancing farmers’ income and attracting the educated unemployed youth towards agri-preneurship. He stressed upon the officers to motivate the farmers to go for the production of exotic and high value vegetables like Seedless Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Red and Yellow Bellpeppers under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production with high returns.

 

Agronomist (Vegetables), J. C. Raina apprised that the Seedless Cucumber is tender-skinned, requiring no peeling, bitter-free, crispy and tasty, besides having great dietary and health benefits and being a good source of vitamins A, B & C and antioxidants.

 

It was also informed that 3.0 lacs of vegetable seedlings grown under poly houses of the department have been provided in the current season to the farmers at nominal rates.
