MAY 02: In a vibrant celebration of International Labour Day, the Labour Department Jammu organized a ‘Run for Health and Safety of Workers’ early Wednesday morning. The initiative, designed to raise awareness about worker welfare, was flagged off at 6:00 AM by Labour Commissioner J&K, Charandeep Singh, from Shram Bhawan, Railway Road.
The route of the run spanned significant landmarks in the city including War Memorial, Railway Station, Ladakh House, J&K Bank Zonal Office lane, and the Divisional Commissioner’s Office before concluding at the Labour Commissioner’s Office. The run drew widespread participation from labourers, government officials, and citizens, emphasizing the importance of health, safety, and dignity for workers across industries.
Participants included staff from the Labour Department, employees of J&K Employees State Insurance Society (JKESIS), Provident Fund Organisation, and others from various sectors. Prominent officers such as Deputy Labour Commissioner Veenkashi Koul, Chief Accounts Officer JKESIS Nimisha Anand, Assistant Labour Commissioners Roopali Gandotra and Rupali Jasrotia actively joined the run.
The event was conducted with the seamless support of several government departments including J&K Police, the Health Department, Municipal Corporation, and Traffic Police, ensuring safety and smooth coordination. Labour Commissioner Charandeep Singh extended heartfelt thanks to all supporting departments for their collaboration.
Each participant received a certificate of appreciation, acknowledging their involvement and enthusiasm. Notably, several labourers were specially honoured with Certificates of Appreciation for their vital contributions to society and the economy.
A unique addition to this year’s celebration was the ‘Wall of Gratitude’ installed at Shram Bhawan. Participants wrote heartfelt messages and signed in solidarity with the working class, reaffirming their collective commitment to labour rights and dignity.
Later in the day, Labour Day was commemorated at the Industrial Estates in Gangyal. The event witnessed active participation from the Association of Industries, led by its President Varinder Jain and his team. Officers from the Labour Department interacted with workers, highlighting key government welfare schemes and safety initiatives.
The day’s events served as a powerful reminder that worker welfare and dignity are shared responsibilities, calling for unified efforts from all segments of society.
