MARCH 21: Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, today held a high-level meeting to review the preparations for the upcoming UT-wide Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign against drug abuse. The campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society, will cover every corner of Jammu and Kashmir, targeting various sectors, especially the youth.
The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from the districts of Jammu Division, along with the Director of Social Welfare, Director of Information, Director of Rural Development, Director of School Education, and other concerned officials. The participation of various stakeholders highlighted the collective approach required to tackle the growing issue of drug abuse.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner instructed the Deputy Commissioners to finalize the schedules for training by resource persons in their respective districts. These training sessions will be critical in equipping local officials and community leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct the IEC campaign effectively.
The Director of Information, Nitish Rajora, presented a sample of the IEC materials that will be used in the campaign. These materials are designed to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention. The Divisional Commissioner directed that these materials be provided to the district administrations for wide circulation and publicity, ensuring that the message reaches as many people as possible.
The comprehensive campaign will utilize a wide range of activities, with a strong focus on schools and colleges, both private and government, as prime venues for outreach. Panchayat-level activities will also play a crucial role, ensuring that the campaign reaches every village and remote area of the region. The campaign will include awareness programs, panel discussions, and the involvement of people from all walks of life, especially youth, to foster a community-driven approach.
IGP Bhim Sen Tuti highlighted the crucial role of the police in the success of the campaign. He urged police officials to ensure that information about legal actions against drug abuse is communicated clearly and sternly. Tuti also stressed the importance of maintaining a close police-public relationship to encourage reporting and detection of drug-related activities.
The Divisional Commissioner further emphasized the need for active involvement of media agencies and personnel to spread the anti-drug message. He also called for the use of social media tools to reach a larger audience, particularly young people, and engage them in the fight against drug abuse. This multi-pronged approach is expected to create a widespread impact, fostering awareness and reducing the prevalence of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.
