MAY 02: The English translation of the acclaimed work Vichar Oshdi, originally authored by renowned writer Santosh Sangra, was officially launched under the title Therapeutic Thoughts at a prestigious event held in Jammu. The launch ceremony was graced by Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Education, who unveiled the translated edition.
The translation of Vichar Oshdi into English has been skillfully executed by Professor Vandana Sharma, Dean of the School of Languages at the Central University of Jammu, along with Dr. Shachi Sood. The book release was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), attracting a wide audience of writers, academicians, and cultural intellectuals.
Speaking on the occasion, Shantmanu remarked, “A book deepens your roots and broadens your horizon.” He praised the thoughtful and eloquent translation, underscoring the importance of such meaningful literature in educational institutions. He also recited a few of his Hindi poems and commended both the author and translators for producing a purposeful and culturally enriching piece.
Harvinder Kaur, Secretary of JKAACL, in her welcome address, described the book as unique and motivational. She emphasized its relevance to the younger generation, saying, “This book inspires us to lead a balanced and meaningful life.”
Professor Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu, applauded the translators for their deep understanding of the original text, noting, “They have translated it into sense, not merely into sentences.”
The original author, Santosh Sangra, read select passages from Vichar Oshdi, touching upon themes of women’s empowerment and social liberation.
In her address, Professor Vandana Sharma described translation as a bridge that connects cultures and eras. She stated that her aim was to “transcreate” the essence of the original, particularly for younger readers.
A comprehensive review of the translated work was presented by Professor Gitanjali Rana, Principal, GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Additionally, Dr. Vandana Sharma and Dr. Nancy Mengi shared their analyses of the original and its portrayal of women’s strength and centrality in the family structure.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head of JKAACL Jammu, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
