JUNE 10: Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, PVSM, VSM, Director General Border Roads (DGBR), met with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir to review and discuss ongoing and future infrastructure development across the Union Territory. The high-level meeting emphasized collaborative efforts between the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the state government to enhance strategic connectivity and improve infrastructure in some of the region’s most remote and challenging terrains.
The discussions revolved around the status of key BRO projects currently underway in Jammu & Kashmir, many of which are crucial for both national security and regional development. Lt Gen Srinivasan and the Chief Minister deliberated on accelerating work on critical roadways, tunnels, and other infrastructure aimed at strengthening border accessibility and ensuring year-round connectivity for civilian and military use.
Particular attention was given to ongoing initiatives to modernize transport infrastructure in far-flung and high-altitude areas that remain vulnerable during harsh weather conditions. These projects not only facilitate smoother troop movement and logistics but also empower local populations by opening new avenues for economic activities and access to essential services.
The DGBR reaffirmed BRO’s commitment to executing high-impact infrastructure projects that align with national strategic priorities and the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He underscored the organization’s dual role in fortifying national defense while also being a key development partner in the region.
The Chief Minister appreciated BRO’s relentless efforts in pushing forward infrastructure progress in some of the most inhospitable and geographically complex areas of the Union Territory. He assured full support from the state administration to facilitate clearances, coordination, and cooperation required for the timely completion of projects.
This meeting highlighted the government’s focus on integrated infrastructure planning—bridging security imperatives with developmental goals. As BRO continues to build roads that connect villages to cities and borders to the heartland, its role remains central to transforming the socio-economic landscape of Jammu & Kashmir.
The partnership between BRO and the state is a shining example of civil-military cooperation aimed at inclusive growth, connectivity, and national resilience.
