Omar Abdullah Chairs Meeting on CAPEX Allocation for Culture Department

JUNE 13: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate and finalize the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) plans for the Culture Department for the financial year 2025–26. The meeting brought together senior officials, department heads, and key stakeholders to comprehensively assess the department’s proposals, budgetary allocations, and strategic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

During the meeting, detailed presentations were made highlighting the various projects and initiatives planned to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region. The proposals included restoration and conservation of historical monuments, development of cultural infrastructure, renovation of museums and libraries, promotion of traditional arts and crafts, and support for artists and cultural practitioners.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the importance of judicious utilization of CAPEX funds to maximize the impact of every rupee spent. He underscored that investments in the cultural sector not only help preserve the region’s heritage but also contribute to tourism promotion, community development, and economic growth.

“Cultural heritage is our identity and legacy. It is our responsibility to ensure its preservation for future generations while making it accessible and relevant for the present,” the Chief Minister remarked. He directed the officials to prioritize projects that have both immediate social benefits and long-term cultural significance.

The Chief Minister also called for effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure that projects are executed within the stipulated timelines and maintain high standards of quality. He instructed the department to regularly review progress reports, address any implementation challenges proactively, and adopt modern technologies wherever applicable to enhance efficiency.

In addition, Omar Abdullah highlighted the importance of community participation in cultural projects. He encouraged the department to engage local artisans, historians, and cultural organizations in various initiatives, ensuring that developmental efforts are inclusive and representative of the region’s diverse heritage.

The Culture Department was further advised to explore avenues for public-private partnerships (PPPs) and external collaborations to bring in expertise, innovation, and additional resources for ambitious projects.

The review meeting concluded with the Chief Minister expressing satisfaction over the department’s vision for 2025–26, while reiterating his government’s full support for all sincere efforts aimed at cultural preservation, promotion, and infrastructural development.
