APRIL 26:
The District Administration Udhampur, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, organized an awareness program on drug de-addiction at Sial Sallan under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, who emphasized the importance of addressing drug abuse, particularly among the youth, as India has the largest youth population in the world. She highlighted that preventing drug addiction is a collective responsibility to ensure the nation’s progress.
The program featured sensitization sessions on the harmful effects of drug abuse, conducted by expert resource persons and counselors from the District Police Line. The DC stressed the role of rehabilitated individuals as ambassadors of change, inspiring others to stay drug-free. She also advocated for a “disrupt and distract” policy, aiming to redirect youth into constructive activities to break drug-using patterns.
A highlight of the event was an inspiring session where individuals who had overcome drug addiction shared their stories of recovery. A soulful guitar performance delivered a powerful message of choosing life over drugs. Participants pledged their support to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, committing to a drug-free society.
To further promote the initiative, participants received bags with the slogan “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.” The program marked an essential step in raising awareness and fostering community support in the fight against drug abuse.
