Jammu, September 12, 2026: Justice Rajnesh Oswal inaugurated the 3rd National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Jammu, bringing a large number of pending disputes before an alternative dispute resolution forum aimed at facilitating speedy and amicable settlements.
Around 750 cases have been identified for settlement during the Lok Adalat, covering a range of matters including Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases and matrimonial disputes.
Nearly ₹9 Crore Disbursed in MACT Cases
A significant focus of the Lok Adalat has been the settlement of MACT-related matters. Nearly ₹9 crore has already been disbursed in MACT cases, with the total amount expected to rise to approximately ₹15 crore by the end of the day.
The settlements are expected to provide financial relief to claimants and families involved in motor accident cases, while also helping reduce the burden of pending litigation.
Matrimonial Disputes Also Settled
Several matrimonial disputes were also taken up during the proceedings, with a number of cases being resolved through mutual understanding between the parties.
Lok Adalats provide disputing parties an opportunity to arrive at settlements through dialogue and conciliation, particularly in cases where an amicable resolution can help avoid prolonged litigation.
Focus on Accessible and Speedy Justice
The National Lok Adalat reflects the broader objective of making dispute resolution more accessible and efficient. By bringing multiple cases before a settlement forum on a single day, such initiatives can help litigants resolve matters without the time and expense associated with extended court proceedings.
The Jammu proceedings also underline the importance of alternative dispute resolution in reducing the pendency of cases and encouraging mutually acceptable outcomes.
With hundreds of cases identified and substantial compensation already disbursed, the 3rd National Lok Adalat at Jammu marks a significant effort towards facilitating quicker settlements and providing relief to litigants.
