MAY 19: On the auspicious occasion of Zeashta Mata Jayanti, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir paid obeisance at the sacred Zeashta Devi Temple in Srinagar. The occasion, marked with religious fervor and devotion, drew devotees from across the region, as they gathered to offer prayers to Maa Zeashta Devi, seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and peace.
The Lieutenant Governor was welcomed by temple priests and members of the Kashmiri Pandit community. He participated in the rituals and offered prayers at the ancient shrine located near the picturesque foothills of the Zabarwan Range. The LG prayed for the well-being of all citizens and hoped for lasting peace, harmony, and prosperity across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Zeashta Mata Jayanti is a sacred occasion that reaffirms our shared spiritual heritage. It reminds us of the power of faith and the strength of our cultural unity. I pray that the divine blessings of Maa Zeashta Devi guide us toward a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Zeashta Devi Temple holds deep spiritual significance, especially among the Kashmiri Pandit community, who regard the deity as an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The temple comes alive each year on Zeashta Ashtami, a spiritually potent day according to the Hindu calendar, when devotees offer special prayers, perform traditional rituals, and engage in devotional singing and offerings.
The Lieutenant Governor also interacted with devotees and assured them of the administration’s continuous efforts to preserve religious sites and promote communal harmony. He reiterated the commitment to protect the rich cultural and religious heritage of Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring the safety and participation of all communities in such religious events.
The event was conducted with adequate security and necessary arrangements made by the local administration. The participation of the Lieutenant Governor added a significant ceremonial weight to the occasion, reinforcing the message of unity, peace, and collective well-being in the region.
