May 21: In preparation for the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela 2024, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, held a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials and directed all concerned departments to ensure smooth and well-coordinated arrangements for the event. The mela is scheduled to take place on June 3 at the historic Kheer Bhawani temple located in Tulmulla, Ganderbal district.
Highlighting the spiritual and cultural significance of the mela, Atal Dulloo emphasized the need for a collective effort to facilitate a seamless experience for pilgrims, especially those returning from different parts of the country. He instructed divisional and district administrations to prioritize critical services such as transportation, accommodation, sanitation, health care, and security.
The Chief Secretary directed the Transport Department to arrange dedicated services from Jammu and other key areas to ensure uninterrupted travel for devotees. Emphasis was laid on cleanliness and hygiene, with the Municipal authorities tasked to provide additional sanitation workers and regular waste clearance throughout the mela period.
For the safety and well-being of pilgrims, the Health Department has been asked to deploy mobile medical units and establish health camps near the temple complex. Ambulances and emergency medical staff will be stationed to handle any unforeseen situations promptly.
On the security front, Mr. Dulloo instructed the Police and Civil Administration to put in place a robust plan for crowd control and area surveillance. Installation of CCTV cameras and deployment of adequate personnel were among the key directives issued to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
Other essential services such as power and water supply will be closely monitored by the Power Development Department and Jal Shakti Department, ensuring uninterrupted delivery to the temple premises and surrounding areas.
The Kheer Bhawani Mela is one of the most revered religious events for the Kashmiri Pandit community. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the event this year, marking their devotion at the sacred shrine of Mata Ragnya Devi. The government remains committed to making this year’s mela a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling experience for all.
