MAY 21: In a comprehensive review meeting held to assess the 2025–26 Capital Expenditure (Capex) plan of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Minister Satish Sharma emphasized the importance of accelerating the execution of key initiatives. The discussion centered on fast-tracking infrastructure projects, enhancing youth engagement, and implementing holistic sports programs across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister Sharma highlighted the crucial role that robust infrastructure and dynamic youth programs play in shaping the future of the region. He urged all officials to ensure timely completion of ongoing and upcoming projects under the Capex plan, especially those aimed at modernizing sports facilities and expanding youth outreach.

One of the key points raised during the review was the need for better inter-departmental coordination. Minister Sharma noted that seamless communication and collaboration between departments is essential to maximize the impact of developmental efforts. He called on stakeholders to work together to remove bottlenecks and ensure smooth execution on the ground.

In a move that will benefit thousands of youth volunteers, the Minister also advocated for an increase in the honorarium provided to National Youth Corps (NYC) members. Recognizing their pivotal role in community development and grassroots mobilization, Sharma underlined the need to provide them with greater financial and institutional support.

Additionally, the review stressed the importance of introducing and sustaining holistic sports activities throughout Jammu and Kashmir. These programs, he said, must not only focus on physical development but also foster discipline, leadership, and team spirit among the youth. The goal is to make sports an integral part of youth identity and lifestyle in the region.

Minister Sharma reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young people to thrive. He emphasized that youth empowerment through sports and structured programs is not just a departmental objective but a strategic investment in the future of Jammu and Kashmir.

The review concluded with a call for actionable timelines, regular monitoring, and an unwavering focus on outcomes. With a clear roadmap and collective effort, the Department of Youth Services and Sports is poised to make 2025–26 a landmark year in youth and sports development.
