AUG 15: The iconic Chenab Railway Bridge—the world’s highest rail bridge—was spectacularly illuminated in the vibrant colours of the Tiranga on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, creating a breathtaking sight against the backdrop of the mighty Chenab River. The tricolour lighting turned the magnificent engineering marvel into a powerful symbol of India’s unity, resilience and technological progress.
As dusk fell, the bridge came alive in shades of saffron, white and green, evoking a deep sense of national pride among citizens across the country. The illumination was part of the ongoing “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign and the nationwide celebrations marking the anniversary of India’s independence. The illumination of the Chenab Bridge—located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir—served as a beautiful reminder of the country’s achievements in modern infrastructure and its ability to overcome geographical and engineering challenges.
Built at a height of 359 metres above the riverbed, the Chenab Bridge is considered one of the most significant rail projects in the world. Officials from the Ministry of Railways and the Jammu and Kashmir administration had coordinated the special tricolour lighting as a tribute to the nation and as an inspiration for citizens to reaffirm their commitment to the values of freedom, unity and peace.
People from nearby areas gathered at various vantage points to witness the illuminated bridge and capture photographs and videos of the stunning display. Social media platforms were filled with patriotic messages and visuals, applauding the magnificent gesture and expressing admiration for the country’s engineering capabilities.
Senior government officials—including the Prime Minister’s Office, Home Ministry, Ministry of Culture, and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of J&K—commended the move and described the glowing Chenab Bridge as a shining tribute to India’s spirit and legacy.
