AUG 31: The annual Gangbal Yatra, a significant pilgrimage for Kashmiri Hindus, commenced today with deep religious enthusiasm and spiritual devotion. The yatra was ceremoniously flagged off by the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Anshul Garg, from the historic Naranag Temple located in Ganderbal district.
Pilgrims gathered early in the morning at the temple premises, where a traditional ceremony marked the beginning of the sacred journey. The Divisional Commissioner extended his best wishes to the devotees and appreciated the efforts of the district administration and various departments involved in ensuring smooth arrangements for the yatra.
The Gangbal Yatra holds immense religious significance, as it leads to the Gangbal Lake situated at the foothills of Mount Harmukh. Considered a sacred site, the lake is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and is a revered destination for Kashmiri Pandits and other devotees.
The administration has made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the pilgrimage, including medical aid stations, security, and logistical support along the route. Anshul Garg emphasized the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the yatra while also ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Local officials, members of civil society, and representatives of various religious and social organizations were present at the flag-off ceremony.
The yatra is expected to conclude in a few days, with pilgrims offering prayers and performing rituals at the scenic and spiritually significant Gangbal Lake.
