SEP 21:In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility in rural Jammu and Kashmir, Minister Sakeena Itoo inaugurated a newly constructed Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Devsar, located in the Kulgam district. The facility is expected to greatly benefit the local population by offering essential medical services closer to home, reducing the need for long travel to urban health centers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Itoo emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in rural and remote areas under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. She noted that the establishment of the PHC at Devsar is part of a broader strategy to improve health services and ensure that every citizen, regardless of geographic location, has access to timely and quality medical care.
Minister Itoo also reiterated the government’s focus on transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. She pointed out that initiatives like these are critical to bridging the urban-rural divide in healthcare delivery. According to her, expanding health infrastructure is not just about constructing buildings but about bringing holistic change by empowering communities and building trust in public services.
She praised the efforts of the local administration, health department, and community leaders for their support in making the project a reality. The new PHC will offer outpatient services, basic emergency care, maternal and child health services, and vaccination facilities.
The Minister also encouraged health workers to serve with dedication and compassion, reminding them that they play a vital role in the state’s development narrative. She assured that more such initiatives are on the anvil, aligning with the broader vision of inclusive growth and better governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
With this inauguration, the government reinforces its pledge to uplift healthcare in underserved regions, fostering a more equitable and healthier society across the union territory.
