April 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday unveiled the official jersey of the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Club in Jammu, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing young talent across the Union Territory.

The unveiling ceremony witnessed the presence of sports enthusiasts, local players, and officials, marking a significant step towards encouraging grassroots-level cricket and youth participation in sporting activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the transformative role of sports in shaping the future of young people. He highlighted that initiatives like these not only provide a platform for budding athletes but also help channel their energy into constructive and disciplined pursuits.

“Sports have the power to unite communities and inspire youth to achieve excellence. Our focus is to create opportunities and infrastructure that enable talent to flourish,” he said.

The Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Club, named after Sheikh Abdullah, aims to promote cricket at the local level and provide aspiring players with better exposure and training opportunities.

Officials noted that the government is actively working to strengthen sports infrastructure across Jammu & Kashmir, including the development of stadiums, training facilities, and coaching programmes.
