Jammu, September 13, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved two major parking infrastructure projects in Jammu with a combined estimated cost of ₹49.34 crore, aimed at addressing traffic congestion and improving the city’s urban mobility infrastructure.
The projects include a Parking-cum-Commercial Complex at Parade and a Multilevel Car Parking facility at SMGS Hospital, Jammu. Both facilities are planned at locations that experience significant vehicular movement and parking pressure.
Parking-cum-Commercial Complex at Parade
The proposed parking-cum-commercial complex at Parade is expected to provide an organised solution to parking requirements in one of Jammu’s busy urban areas.
By bringing parking into a planned facility, the project is intended to reduce the dependence on roadside parking and help improve the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in the surrounding area.
The commercial component will also enable more efficient use of valuable urban land, combining parking infrastructure with other planned activities.
Multilevel Parking at SMGS Hospital
The second project is a Multilevel Car Parking facility at SMGS Hospital, where high daily footfall and frequent vehicular movement create considerable demand for parking space.
A dedicated multilevel facility is expected to provide visitors, patients, attendants and hospital staff with a more organised parking arrangement while helping reduce congestion around the hospital.
Focus on Planned Urban Development
The two projects form part of a broader effort to strengthen Jammu’s urban infrastructure and make better use of limited available space.
As vehicle ownership and urban activity increase, conventional surface parking requires substantial land and can contribute to congestion when vehicles are parked along busy roads. Multilevel and integrated parking facilities can accommodate more vehicles within a comparatively smaller footprint.
