The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur, Jammu, organised a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Ethics, Governance and Good Clinical Practice in Biomedical and Health Research on October 26, 2026, in collaboration with AIIMS New Delhi and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.

The programme aimed to strengthen understanding of ethical standards, regulatory requirements and responsible research practices among healthcare professionals, researchers and students.

The event was held under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Sinha, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, who served as the Organising Chairperson.

Prof. (Dr.) S. C. Tiwari, Chairperson of the Ethics Committee (PGR) and former Head of Nephrology at AIIMS New Delhi, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) G. N. Singh, former Drugs Controller General of India, was the Guest of Honour.

Focus on Ethical and Responsible Biomedical Research

The CME addressed key aspects of biomedical and health research, including research ethics, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, research integrity, data protection, clinical trial regulations and patient safety.

The sessions also highlighted the role of institutional ethics committees in ensuring that research involving human participants is conducted responsibly and in accordance with applicable ethical and regulatory standards.

Discussions focused on the importance of protecting participants’ rights, maintaining transparency in research processes and ensuring the reliability and integrity of scientific findings.

The programme provided a platform for participants to understand evolving regulatory expectations and the responsibilities of researchers and healthcare institutions in conducting ethical clinical studies.

Experts Share Knowledge and Experience

Expert sessions were delivered by specialists from the Indian Council of Medical Research, AIIMS New Delhi, NITI Aayog and AIIMS Jammu.

The sessions offered insights into regulatory frameworks, institutional governance and the practical application of ethical principles in biomedical research. The participation of experts from different institutions enabled the exchange of knowledge and professional experiences across various areas of healthcare and research.

Faculty members, resident doctors and undergraduate students participated in the programme, reflecting the importance of research ethics education across different stages of medical training.

Strengthening Research Standards at AIIMS Jammu

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote responsible biomedical research and improve awareness of ethical and regulatory practices among healthcare professionals.

By bringing together experienced experts, faculty members and students, the CME sought to encourage a research culture based on accountability, patient safety, scientific integrity and compliance with established guidelines.

Such academic programmes play an important role in preparing medical professionals to address ethical challenges in clinical research while maintaining public trust in healthcare institutions and scientific investigations.

The collaboration between AIIMS Jammu, AIIMS New Delhi and ICMR also provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional engagement in advancing ethical research practices and improving the quality of biomedical and health research.
