APRIL 11: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in a decisive move under Article 311 of the Constitution of India, has dismissed two government employees from service for their involvement in activities prejudicial to the interests of the State and nation. The two individuals, one from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department and the other from the Public Works (R&B) Department, were found to be deeply involved in anti-national and terror-related activities, as per credible intelligence inputs.
Basharat Ahmad Mir, serving as an Assistant Wireless Operator in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, was dismissed following reports from law enforcement and intelligence agencies indicating his continuous involvement with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives. A resident of Upper Brein, District Srinagar, Mir was allegedly in constant touch with foreign operatives and was found guilty of sharing classified information regarding security installations and troop deployments. Posted at a strategically sensitive location and entrusted with access to vital national security data, he chose to misuse his position by acting as a conduit for hostile intelligence services. His actions posed a severe threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, and his dismissal underscores the grave nature of his offenses.
In a parallel action, Ishtiyak Ahmed Malik, a Senior Assistant in the Public Works (R&B) Department and resident of Shitroo Larnoo, District Anantnag, was also terminated. Malik was identified as an active member of the proscribed organization Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI-JK) and a known terror associate of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen. According to intelligence reports, Malik played a key role in aiding and abetting terrorist activities in South Kashmir. He facilitated the movement and shelter of terrorists, provided logistical support, and passed on sensitive information regarding security force movements, enabling terrorists to evade detection and execute attacks. His actions contributed directly to the strengthening of terror infrastructure in the region.
The dismissals are part of a broader zero-tolerance policy adopted by the Jammu and Kashmir administration against individuals misusing their government positions to undermine national security. The government reiterated its firm stance that any association with terrorism, directly or indirectly, will not be tolerated, especially from those in public service roles entrusted with upholding the law and protecting the nation.
