JAMMU, MAY 20: Department of Agriculture, Jammu celebrated “World Bee Day” today across Jammu Division. The main event was held at Apiculture Demonstration-Cum-Training Centre (DCTC), Chimnachak.
Pertinently, this year the Day is being celebrated under the theme “Bee Engaged in Pollinators-Friendly Agricultural Production.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture, Jammu, K. K. Sharma highlighted that Bees and other pollinators are crucial for the health of the ecosystem and food security as they help maintain biodiversity and ensure production of healthy food crops. “World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20 across the World to educate the people regarding the importance of bees for the Ecosystem. Jammu region possesses huge potential for development of Bee Keeping on commercial scale as an additional source of income for the farming community, he maintained.
The Director urged the people and farmers to come forward and contribute towards the preservation of bees and other pollinators by planting pollinator-friendly plants, avoiding the use of pesticides, supporting local beekeepers, and spreading awareness about the crucial role bees play in maintaining a healthy environment.
Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), R. K Hetaishi, Assistant Entomologist, Bhupinder Gupta, ADA, Raj Kumar besides farmers and beekeepers were also present on the occasion.
