AIIMS Awantipora Progress Reviewed in Meeting Between CM Omar Abdullah and ED Sachidananda Mohanty

AUG 21: The Executive Director of AIIMS Awantipora, Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, today called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and briefed him about the progress of the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

During the meeting, Prof. Mohanty presented a detailed account of the work accomplished so far, including construction milestones, ongoing infrastructure development, and the proposed roadmap for timely completion of the prestigious health project. He assured the Chief Minister that the institute is being developed with modern medical infrastructure and facilities to serve the healthcare needs of the Kashmir Valley.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appreciated the efforts being put in by the management and construction agencies but emphasized the need to expedite the pace of work to ensure that the institute is completed at the earliest. He highlighted that AIIMS Awantipora will be a game-changer for healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir, offering advanced treatment facilities, research opportunities, and high-quality medical education.

The Chief Minister further underlined that the project must not only focus on physical infrastructure but also on creating an enabling environment for world-class faculty recruitment, research collaborations, and patient-centric services. He directed the concerned agencies to remove bottlenecks, strengthen coordination, and ensure strict adherence to deadlines.

Prof. Mohanty reaffirmed AIIMS management’s commitment to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe and said that the institute is envisioned as a premier center of excellence in healthcare and medical education for the entire region.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to transform AIIMS Awantipora into a state-of-the-art facility that will reduce dependency on healthcare services outside the Union Territory and contribute significantly towards improving the overall health sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
