Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir:

An awareness programme focusing on drug abuse and cross-border smuggling was organised at Government High School Degwar M, located near the Line of Control in Poonch.

The initiative was conducted by the Education Department in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, aiming to sensitise students, parents, and local residents about the growing threats posed by drug trafficking and illegal cross-border activities.

A large number of participants attended the programme, reflecting strong community interest in tackling the issue. Officials highlighted how drug abuse not only affects individual health but also poses serious risks to society and national security.

During the session, authorities discussed evolving smuggling methods being used by anti-social elements, including the use of drones for dropping contraband and concealing illegal substances within goods. They stressed that such tactics require heightened awareness and vigilance among the public.

Speakers urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. They emphasized that timely information from the public can play a crucial role in preventing illegal activities and ensuring community safety.

The programme also focused on educating young students about the dangers of substance abuse and encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles. Officials noted that awareness at an early stage is key to preventing the spread of drug addiction.

Participants expressed their commitment to supporting authorities in curbing the drug menace and safeguarding their communities. The initiative concluded with a call for collective responsibility and sustained efforts to address the twin challenges of drug abuse and cross-border smuggling.
