APRIL 13: In a vibrant celebration of heritage, culture, and community spirit, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with Jammu Smart City, the Directorate of Tourism, and the Raghunath Bazar Vikas Corridor Council, is set to celebrate Baisakhi with grandeur at the newly developed Suryaputri Tawi River Front.
The announcement was made during a press conference held today by Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, who shared details of the planned festivities. He highlighted that this year’s celebration would be marked by a renewed focus on showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the region, fostering a sense of pride and unity among the people of Jammu.
Dr. Yadav informed the media that the festivities will be formally inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. The presence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor is expected to lend a special significance to the occasion, underlining the administration’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage and tourism in the Union Territory.
One of the key highlights of the Baisakhi celebration will be a traditional wrestling competition, to be held at the riverfront. This competition will feature local wrestlers and is aimed at promoting indigenous sports and providing a platform for local talent to shine. Such traditional events not only entertain but also serve to preserve the age-old customs and sportsmanship that have been a part of regional festivities for generations.
Adding a spiritual touch to the cultural celebration, a special Aarti ceremony will take place at the sacred Suryaputri Tawi Ghat at 6:00 PM. The ceremonial Aarti is expected to draw large crowds, as it offers a serene and devotional experience amid the scenic setting of the rejuvenated riverfront.
Dr. Yadav extended a warm invitation to all citizens of Jammu to actively participate in the celebration and contribute to its success. He emphasized that public involvement is key to the vibrancy of such cultural events and urged families, youth, and community groups to come together in the spirit of Baisakhi.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation envisions the event as a fusion of festivity, spirituality, and cultural pride—a memorable celebration that brings the community together on the banks of the revered Tawi River.
