The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is all set to organise a grand two-day Winter Tourism Festival in Bhaderwah on January 17 and 18, marking a significant step towards promoting the picturesque town as a premier winter tourism destination in the Union Territory.

Known as the “Mini Kashmir” of the Jammu region, Bhaderwah transforms into a winter wonderland during the snow season. The upcoming festival aims to highlight this natural charm while offering visitors a vibrant mix of adventure sports, cultural activities, and live performances. Tourism officials said the event is designed to attract domestic and regional tourists, encouraging them to explore Bhaderwah’s untapped winter tourism potential.

The festival itinerary includes a range of snow-based adventure activities such as skiing, sledging and snow trekking, catering especially to youth and adventure enthusiasts. These activities are expected to position Bhaderwah as an emerging hub for winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition to adventure tourism, the event will celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage. Local artists and cultural troupes will present traditional music, folk dances, and cultural performances, offering visitors an authentic experience of Bhaderwah’s unique traditions. Live musical performances are also planned to enhance the festive atmosphere and engage tourists of all age groups.

Officials from the Tourism Department said the festival will provide a strong platform for local artisans, hoteliers, tour operators, and small businesses to benefit from increased tourist footfall. By promoting homestays, local cuisine, and handicrafts, the festival is expected to generate employment opportunities and support the local economy during the winter season.

The Winter Tourism Festival aligns with the broader vision of the Jammu and Kashmir administration to promote year-round tourism, diversify tourism offerings beyond traditional destinations, and strengthen lesser-known yet high-potential locations, such as Bhaderwah. Improved connectivity, hospitality infrastructure, and promotional campaigns are already helping the town gain recognition among travellers.

With its snow-clad landscapes, adventure opportunities, and cultural vibrancy, Bhaderwah’s Winter Tourism Festival is expected to draw significant attention and reinforce the town’s position on the winter tourism map of Jammu and Kashmir.
