An Indian pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, has been honoured by United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan with the First Class Order of Zayed II in recognition of his courageous actions during an in-flight security incident in September.

Captain Machchhar and fellow crew members of flydubai received the honour for their efforts to protect passengers during the incident, highlighting the importance of professional responsibility, courage and teamwork in aviation safety.

The recognition acknowledges the crew’s response during a challenging situation in which passenger safety was a priority. Pilots and cabin crew are trained to follow established safety and security procedures, particularly when confronted with unexpected emergencies during a flight.

UAE Recognises Courage and Professional Commitment

The Order of Zayed II is among the honours associated with recognition by the UAE leadership. The award to Captain Machchhar and his fellow crew members highlights the value placed on their reported efforts to safeguard passengers.

The recognition also reflects the importance of cooperation between aviation professionals in managing security-related challenges and maintaining confidence in air travel.

Captain Machchhar’s achievement brings recognition to Indian aviation professionals working with international airlines and serving passengers across global routes.

The honour serves as a reminder of the responsibilities carried by flight crews, whose decisions and coordinated actions can be critical to passenger safety during emergencies.
