New Delhi, October 24: The Centre has achieved its target of creating 11 crore Farmer IDs across the country, five months ahead of the March 2027 deadline, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to digitise agricultural services and improve access to farmer welfare schemes.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the achievement on October 24, stating that the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been reached on the night of October 23. The initiative is being implemented under the government’s Digital Agriculture Mission. <Cite refs={[“turn895766view0″,”turn895766search9”]}/>

The Farmer ID serves as a unique digital identity for farmers and is intended to make the delivery of government benefits more transparent, efficient and accessible. It will help farmers access services such as bank loans, crop insurance, disaster relief assistance and the sale of agricultural produce.

According to the minister, the digital identification system will help ensure that benefits reach eligible farmers while reducing repeated documentation and making agricultural services more convenient.

Digital Push to Strengthen Agricultural Services

The creation of 11 crore Farmer IDs is part of the Centre’s broader strategy to build a digital infrastructure for agriculture. The system aims to connect farmers with relevant agricultural records and services, helping government agencies improve the delivery of welfare programmes.

The initiative is expected to support access to schemes and services linked to agricultural credit, crop insurance and government procurement. By streamlining identification and verification, the system can also reduce administrative hurdles faced by farmers when applying for benefits.

The Digital Agriculture Mission seeks to use technology to improve the availability of reliable agricultural information and strengthen farmer-focused service delivery across the country.

Centre Acknowledges Contribution of States and Officials

Chouhan congratulated officials and employees of the Central Government, state governments, Union Territories and district administrations for their coordinated efforts in achieving the target ahead of schedule.

The minister also highlighted the role of modern technology in making farming-related services more accessible and efficient. The initiative is intended to help farmers spend less time navigating administrative procedures and more time on their agricultural activities.

The achievement represents an important step in India’s agricultural digitisation drive. Its long-term impact will depend on effective implementation, accurate records and ensuring that eligible farmers can access the benefits and services linked to their digital identities.

With the 11-crore target achieved ahead of schedule, the government’s focus remains on strengthening digital service delivery and making agricultural support systems more transparent and accessible to farmers across India.
