SEP 18:In a significant step toward improving public service delivery and transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the newly constructed Transport Bhawan at Bemina, Srinagar. The state-of-the-art facility brings all transport-related services under one roof, marking a major milestone in strengthening the administrative efficiency of the Transport Department in Jammu and Kashmir.

The new building is equipped with modern amenities to cater to the growing needs of citizens and streamline processes such as vehicle registration, driving license issuance, fitness certification, and permit approvals. The centralized setup is expected to significantly reduce delays and improve transparency in service delivery.

Speaking at the inauguration, CM Omar Abdullah emphasized the government’s commitment to adopting technology-driven governance. “This facility represents a step forward in delivering fast, efficient, and citizen-centric services,” he said, highlighting that infrastructure development remains a top priority for his administration.

In addition to unveiling the new Transport Bhawan, the Chief Minister also launched PVC-based Registration Certificates (RCs). These tamper-resistant, durable cards come with integrated QR codes, replacing the traditional paper-based RCs. The initiative aims to enhance the quality, security, and verification process of vehicle registration documents.

The PVC RCs will allow instant digital verification, helping curb document forgery, streamline enforcement, and make it easier for vehicle owners to carry and maintain their documents. The introduction of these smart cards places J&K among the progressive states adopting tech-based reforms in transport services.

Transport officials briefed the Chief Minister on the technical features of the new system and the digital upgrades being implemented. CM Abdullah appreciated the department’s efforts and urged them to continue focusing on improving service standards and public convenience.

The launch of the new Transport Bhawan and PVC RCs marks a turning point in public service innovation in J&K’s transport sector, setting the stage for future digital transformation.
