Leading a successful expedition to Mt. Kangchenjunga — India’s highest mountain peak — Col Jamwal completed the ambitious ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ mission, a tribute to the unity and diversity of the nation. The initiative aimed to hoist the Indian tricolour atop the highest peaks of all 28 Indian states, embodying a symbolic convergence of national pride with nature’s loftiest altars.
Standing tall at 8,586 meters, Mt. Kangchenjunga is not just a formidable climb; it represents the spirit of challenge and resilience. The mountain’s harsh weather and treacherous terrain have made it one of the most dangerous climbs in the Himalayas. Yet, under Col Jamwal’s leadership, the team achieved a rare 100% summit success rate — a testament to his experience, training, and deep-rooted discipline as an officer of the Indian Army and head of NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports).
Having already summited the Seven Summits — the highest mountains on each continent — and garnered accolades such as the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, Col Jamwal’s latest feat reaffirms his role as a living inspiration to youth and adventurers across the country.
More than a physical conquest, the ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ mission has served as a unifying metaphor — reminding the country that from the snow-covered peaks of Arunachal Pradesh to the rugged ranges of the Western Ghats, the Indian flag binds every terrain with purpose and pride. “This mission is a salute to the spirit of every Indian — north, south, east or west,” Col Jamwal remarked after the summit. “Our Tiranga now flies atop every state’s highest point. That is our true summit.”
