APRIL 12: In a continued effort to promote a drug-free society, the Cultural Unit of the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu, in collaboration with the District Administration Jammu, organized a cultural awareness programme titled “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Say No to Drugs) at Bakshi Nagar.
The initiative aimed to sensitize the public about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and to encourage collective efforts towards building a healthy, addiction-free society. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, and officials, all gathered to support the noble cause.
Artists from the DIPR Cultural Unit played a key role in delivering the message through art and performance. They captivated the audience with thought-provoking, theme-based songs that effectively conveyed the emotional, physical, and societal damage caused by substance abuse. The performances painted a vivid picture of how addiction not only ruins individuals but also deeply affects families and communities.
Adding further value to the event were lecturers from the Education Department and the Naib Tehsildar of Jammu Khas, who graced the occasion and addressed the audience. In their brief yet impactful speeches, they underscored the urgency of the issue and highlighted the role that educators, civil society, and families must play in preventing drug addiction, especially among the youth. They also commended the Department of Information and Public Relations for organizing such an insightful and socially relevant programme.
The awareness programme was conducted under the overall direction of Joint Director Information Jammu, Atul Gupta, and the supervision of Cultural Officer Jammu, Mukesh Kumar Sharma. Both officials emphasized the importance of using cultural platforms to reach out to the masses, especially in urban and semi-urban areas where youth are particularly vulnerable to falling into the trap of drug abuse.
The event concluded with a call to action for all present to actively participate in creating a vigilant and aware community that stands united against drug addiction. The programme at Bakshi Nagar was part of a larger campaign under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” which aims to involve every section of society in the mission to eradicate drug abuse from the region.
