May 25: In a well-coordinated crackdown, Delhi Police’s Foreigners Cell successfully apprehended nine Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the national capital. The arrests were made following a targeted surveillance operation carried out on May 23, 2025, in the Wazirpur JJ Colony area under the jurisdiction of Bharat Nagar Police Station.

The action stemmed from a tip-off received by the Foreigners Cell, leading to an intensive door-to-door check across multiple narrow lanes and densely populated residential clusters. The police team scanned around 100 lanes and 50 pathways in Wazirpur during their operation.

One man initially tried to mislead authorities by claiming to be an Indian citizen. However, after thorough questioning, he confessed to being a Bangladeshi national without valid documentation. This breakthrough led to the identification of his family members, all residing illegally in Delhi.

Those arrested include Mohammad Saidul Islam (45), his wife Nazma Begum (42), their sons Nazmul, Apple, Laden, Idul, their daughter Shaida Akhtar, and two minor children. None of them possessed valid passports, visas, or residential permits, thus violating India’s immigration laws under the Foreigners Act, 1946.

According to police investigations, the group crossed the border into India through Cooch Behar in West Bengal and initially settled in Mewat, Haryana, working at a local brick kiln. However, fearing detection by law enforcement, they fled to Delhi and had been changing their address frequently to avoid being caught.

During the raid, officers recovered a mobile phone containing the banned IMO app, which was allegedly used to maintain contact with people in Bangladesh. The arrested individuals had recently been searching for rented accommodations in Delhi to establish a more permanent presence.

All nine have been handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in RK Puram for further legal proceedings, including deportation.

This successful operation reflects the Delhi Police’s continued vigilance in addressing illegal immigration concerns and maintaining public safety. Authorities emphasized the importance of public cooperation and alertness in detecting such cases and reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing immigration laws effectively.
