Srinagar: Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth reviewed the operational preparedness of security forces during his visit to forward areas of north and central Kashmir, with a focus on maintaining vigilance and strengthening intelligence-led counter-terror operations.
During the visit, which included areas such as Kupwara and Budgam, General Seth interacted with troops and reviewed the security situation and preparedness of formations deployed in the region.
According to the Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the Army Chief visited a Rashtriya Rifles sector headquarters under the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps and took stock of preparations for counter-terrorist operations.
Focus on Intelligence-Led Operations
General Seth was briefed on the prevailing security situation and measures being undertaken to detect, deter and respond to emerging terrorist threats.
He called upon personnel to maintain constant vigilance and further sharpen intelligence-led operations. The Army Chief also stressed the need for forces to retain the ability to respond quickly and precisely to changing threats.
He emphasised close coordination and seamless synergy among all stakeholders to improve situational awareness and strengthen the overall counter-terror response.
The visit also included recognition of soldiers for their gallantry and exemplary service. Commendations were pinned on deserving personnel in recognition of their contribution to counter-terrorist operations.
Emphasis on Local Population’s Security
General Seth stressed the importance of maintaining sustained operational focus while ensuring the safety and security of the local population.
The Army Chief called for a coordinated and calibrated response to security threats, while maintaining preparedness to address emerging challenges in the region.
The Army has continued to emphasise operational readiness and adaptability in response to the evolving security environment. General Seth had also stressed the importance of sustained readiness, technology absorption and refinement of warfighting procedures during his earlier review of operational preparedness at Southern Command.
Army Chief’s Kashmir Visit Comes Amid Security Operations
The Kashmir review comes against the backdrop of continued counter-terror operations in north and central Kashmir and security efforts along forested and difficult-to-access areas.
The Army Chief’s visit also follows his recent engagement in Tangdhar, Kupwara, where he visited an Armed Forces Medical Services mega eye surgical camp conducted under Operation Drishti on September 24 and 25.
General Dhiraj Seth took over as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff on June 30, 2026, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi. The Ministry of Defence has noted that his career includes operational experience in Jammu and Kashmir, including command of a Counter-Insurgency Force.
The Army continues to maintain its focus on operational preparedness, intelligence gathering and coordination among security stakeholders as forces work to address terrorist threats and maintain a secure environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
