DIC Pulwama and Cultural Society Organize Mehfil-e-Mushaira to Promote Kashmiri Language and Heritage

JANUARY 12: The District Information Centre (DIC) Pulwama, in collaboration with the District Cultural Society, Pulwama Saturday organized Mehfil-e-Mushaira to promote the Kashmiri language and develop literary taste among participants besides celebrating literary heritage of the district.

The event witnessed active participation from distinguished poets and literary enthusiasts.

District Information Officer, Wajeeza Mushtaq, graced the occasion while prominent literary figures, including the President of the District Cultural Society Pulwama, Shamas Siddique, General Secretary of the District Cultural Society, GM Dilshad and the Editor of Nida e Kashmir, Mehraj-ud-Din Faraz, presided over the event.

The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, creating a reverent and reflective atmosphere. Poets from across the district presented their literary compositions in Kashmiri, captivating the audience with their poetic renditions that covered a wide array of themes,  reflections on drug addiction, as well as mystical and spiritual poetry.

Addressing the gathering, the District Information Officer highlighted the significance of Pulwama’s rich cultural and literary heritage, emphasizing the need to preserve and promote these traditions for future generations.

She noted, Pulwama has produced poetic luminaries such as Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor, Soch Kral, Wahab Khar and Habba Khatoon, whose contributions continue to inspire us. She also reiterated the commitment of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to providing platforms that uphold and sustain the district’s cultural identity.

General Secretary of the District Cultural Society, GM Dilshad, commended the efforts of the DIPR in organizing such literary and cultural activities. He urged the talented and culturally aware youth of the district to actively participate in artistic and literary pursuits to ensure the continuity of Pulwama’s vibrant cultural ethos.

The event showcased an impressive lineup of poets, including Abdul Rahman Fida, Fatima Ji, Tajul Nisa, Sehresh Noor, Sikander Irshad, Shahmes Saleem, Rouf Jan, Bilal Kashmiri, Idrees Malik, Ab. Rashid Siddiqui, Shakir Farooq, Ab. Rashid Dilber, Zargar Aziz, Gh. Hassan Shabnam, Gh. Mohammad Jangalnari, Gamgeen Majeed, Mohd Akbar Dardbaz, Shah Ajaz, Mohammad Akram Siddique, Mohammad Yousuf Dildaar, Sheikh Gulzar, Mohammad Ashraf and Mohammad Yousuf, among others. Their evocative and thought-provoking poetry left a lasting impression on the audience, celebrating the district’s rich literary and cultural heritage.

The event was attended by officials of DIC Pulwama along with a host of renowned poets and academicians affiliated with the cultural society.
